Making a humble beginning the Foundation,
through the donations made by its members,
their families
and friends, has been able to achieve the following:
PROFILING:
To identify the most deserving amongst a population of
over 15,000 spread over 18 villages and hamlets
of the area a general survey, through a Performa
prepared by the Foundation, was conducted by
volunteers and subsequently the profile of the target
area was compiled. Based on the survey the
Foundation, making a humble beginning, through
donations by family members and friends, has
endeavored to gradually achieve its objectives, as
meaningfully as possible, by undertaking the following
projects:
(A) - ASSISTANCE TO DESTITUTES / WIDOWS:
Families having no bread earner; old couples/singles and
widows with minor kids were provided sustenance through
the year. Similarly widows, young orphan girls and an
earthquake victim Kashmiri family, having a know-how of
sewing vocation were provided with sewing machines to
enable them to earn their living.
(B) - FIRST STEP PROJECT:
Under this scheme young girls in poor families are to be
imparted primary education/vocational
training. The Foundation made a beginning for providing
primary education /sewing training in
two make-shift centers
(at village New Islamabad and Basti Bahbal Khan), by supplying free elementary
books and
sewing machines
along with accessories at each location. For
encouragement the girl
students are being supplied with monthly ration while the
instructor girls are being paid an
honorarium. Two more such locations are under consideration.
However, the Vocational
Centre being the key project the Foundation has got the site
plan of the center ready while the land has
also been donated by the Foundation Chairman. The
construction on a modest facility is likely to start
after
sufficient funds are available.
(C) - RAH NUMA LIFE PARTNER:
Financial support was provided to a couple of poor
families for the marriage/dowry of their daughters.
Some more such applications are under scrutiny.
(D) - RAMDHAN / EID PACKAGE:
To enable the poor to participate in the celebration of
Eid-ul-Fitr a package, consisting of basic
necessities like flour, sugar, cooking oil and clothing
with some cash was provided to over fifty
poor individuals, selected on the basis of the
survey. The Foundation utilized this occasion to also
invite
community leaders to encourage them to emulate the
social work being undertaken by the Foundation.
(E) - ASSISTANCE TO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS:
Responding to the calamity resulting from the destructive
earthquake of the 8th October, 2005, the
Foundation took upon itself to solicit donations to provide
relief & succor to the earthquake victims.
By Allah’s grace it was able, with the help of donations in
cash and kind to provide 450 tents, 160
blankets, 400 warm bedding, 5 ton rations consisting of
flour, rice, cooking oil etc., clothing, milk, biscuits
& medicines for children, tent school books, pedestal fans
and arrangement for accommodation including
rations for a Kashmiri family. A Kashmiri college student is
also being supported financially for his education.
(F) - FREE MOBILE DISPENSARY / MEDICAL CAMPS:
The Foundation has started arranging free mobile medical
camps on almost monthly basis, depending upon
the availability of doctors, in different villages in the
area. The first camp was arranged on the 16th
April at
Basti New Islamabad, the second on the 21st May at
village Rari Mallaykay and the third on the 23rd
June,
2006 at village 60/SP. A team of two to three doctors
including a lady doctor with six to eight
attendants male nurses attended to 135, 198 and
214 patients respectively. Free medicines were
provided to all patients.
To arrange for the hospitalization of very poor patients
the Foundation has signed an agreement with
a newly setup private hospital i.e. Ghulam Muhammad Memorial
Hospital, Pakpattan. The hospital authorities
have agreed to provide medical and surgical services to
patients referred to them by the Foundation
on reduced rates. Recently
a very poor young patient who broke his spine and was
lying
unattended at home for the last many months has been admitted
in the hospital and is being
treated at the expense of the Foundation.
(G) - PLASTIC SURGERY:
In coordination with Bashir Hospital in Gujrat in the
Punjab Province, the Foundation was able to get an 18
year old person operated for Cleft Lip & Pallet. It
is noteworthy that this specialized operation is
conducted by a team of British surgeons / nurses
visiting Bashir Hospital twice a year.
(H) -
FREE EYE CAMPS:
The first free eye camp was arranged in the area on the
8th November, 2005 where 135 patients were
checked by a senior Eye Surgeon, who recommended eye
operations to 42 males / females. All patients
were provided with free eye drops & related medicine.
As it was not possible to carry out operations in
the camp an arrangement was made with Qasim Eye
Hospital at Pakpattan for providing necessary services
at concessional rates. 38 poor patients subsequently
got their eye surgery & the Foundation picked up
the bill for operations / lenses.
The second free eye camp was held on the 16th
April, 2006 in which 78 patients were checked and
provided free medicines. 22 patients, recommended for
eye operation, are being operated upon in

they used to sustain every year.

Despite financial constraints the Foundation has started
supporting very poor but promising students at
school and college level and has also provided a soft
loan to a needy MBA student of Comsats University,
Lahore. Further such assistance will depend upon his
scores in terminal exams.
